The number of returns has exploded in Q4 2020 compared to Q4 2019 showing an increase of 51%. This is most likely due to Covid-19 enforced lockdowns temporarily closing non-essential shops. One example of this is fashion, where normally people would try on multiple sizes, styles etc. in store.
However, with stores shut, this has meant consumers instead having to buy multiple sizes of the same item online to find the right fit and afterwards returning the wrong sizes or unwanted items.
